Disgusting food and ridiculous service.. waste of money and time..
I needed a place that could handle a large group (30-40) people for an after-event (Taekwon-Do tournament) dinner. Called several places but most places did not have the capacity or were not taking reservations for a group that size. I did a search and found Royal India. Pal Chahal is amazing. He was able to give us a separate area, an amazing Indian buffet (everything was fresh and restocked promptly)and really fast service. There was another large group in the restaurant but it didn’t affect the quality. If you need a place to get great Indian food in Calgary with professional service, this is the place to go.
The atmosphere is very dull, the place looked deserted and the food tasted medicore, gravey was watery, pakoda felt half cooked, deserts were not fresh, fruit selection was next to nothing. I would definitely avoid this place
Tasty food. Good customer service .nice environment
Paul is interesting to work with, the venue and food are generally tasty
Came for dinner one evening - absolutely awesome! Great, friendly service and awesome food!
We were here for a birthday supper on Friday night and absolutely loved it. This was our second time here. The food is very well priced, tasted wonderful and ended up with more food than we could eat. For 5 of us with an appetizer, naan, rice and 4 main dishes it was about $80! The restaurant is very large, but you wouldn't know it from the street. It's quite hidden away even though it's right on 4th Ave close to Centre St. It looks like they have a lunch buffet, but for ordering off the menu with service that's second to none I recommend going on the evening.
My friend took me to all his favourite restaurants in Calgary and this was on his list.
Im not picky at all... il eat pretty much any thing but ordered from them and threw my dinner in the trash and ordered something else. Was shook on how bad it was.. I love Indian food never been so disappointed with food.
Good food Nice ambience
The quality of food at this restaurant is not what it used to be. I will not change the star rating yet.. because the last time we went there, it was huge private event that was happening at the same time that we were there. I still like going there for their buffets. I find that the food in buffets is our reasonable than their a la carte menu.
Good vegetarian options, delicious naan, chicken was not cooked thoroughly.
The food was great, had lots of flavor. The staff was very helpful, just a great place to take the family.
The food we ordered was very old and chicken was yellowish in color from inside and was fully coated with artificial green color instead of the Indian green herb paste in a hariyali chicken. Total waste of money.
Awesome veg biriyani, worth the price.
Pathetic buffet experience of my life time,, lack of variety available in the buffet. Imagin Saturday night and only us, now I know as not worth a penny. The food seemed to be like leftover, the dessert part was a joke. Salad looked like to be arranged for one person. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND PLEASE DON,T GO HERE AS TOTAL WASTAGE OF MONEY. The previous reviews seems to me be paid ones. Don’t be fooled by downtown location.
This a good place i like it
Food was really old. The Pakora was old and tough, I couldn't even bite into it. The Papadums were soft and stale. I told the manager and waitress about this. They said they would check on it and did nothing about it, even the butter chicken was just barely warm. It all just tasted and felt like three day old food. On-top of it they charged me an adult rate for my 9 year old boy. I'm highly disappointed because after I had told them twice about the old food, I was overcharged. Most places would cut a bit off of the bill for that experience. That being said, the last time I ate here was lovely, but sadly I won't be coming back after this experience.
Lots of choices and great food. Favorite place to go for lunch but remember to pace yourself unlike me. I tend to eat myself into a food coma then fight to stay awake at work in the afternoon. My fault, not theirs. ;-)
We had a wedding function at Royal India Calgary. The buffer was the best I had had in a while, with great flavor.
The butter chicken is amazing and perfectly spiced.
Excellent food. Very good (and funny) team. I liked it.
Good Indian food stick with South Indian cuisine and you would be fine
I'm not a fan of Indian food because of a bad incident some years ago but I decided to give it a try again. Food was actually very tasty. Service was good too.
Been here twice and I must say it is rally Royal.Food variety is huge and service is fast. Buffet is really cheap and tasty.
Visited couple of months back in a group of 40 plus, Service need improvement, Food quality and taste needs improvement.
Buffet dinner was delicious and had lots of variety. Everything was mildly spicy which I appreciate
Rating is for the location and seating capacity absolutely awesome but this is not the right place for biryani lovers from India ☹️😪 but I absolutely loved the place, roti and kadai veg.
It's a good place to stop for lunch or dinner if you are in a rush or don't want to do lots of research. It serves all the basic Indian fares without anything that really stands out. It doesn't disappoint you either with it's regular items like goat curry or butter chicken. They have lunch buffet which is very convenient for the weekday lunch crowd. Being at the center of Calgary downtown helps too.
Me and my family were in Calgary Downtown Traveling from B.C. Hotel recommended us this Indian restaurant. Best buffet we ever had. She is vegetarian she was so happy to see that many choices. Best rice pudding yum yum. Recommended if you are in Downtown Calgary.
This place used to be good, but we feel the quality has declined a bit lately
Ordered from here multiple times and I am impressed each time. The curry is phenomenal I absolutely love it. I have ordered three times in two weeks! Just that good. Chicken is tender and falls apart with just a fork, the spices are lovely. Good eats!
Buffet selection is not bad.Foods are as good as always. I am a very picky eater, trust me, but i dont have any complain about the taste of any of the items that are served on the buffet table. All the meat are very moist and tender, even the butter chicken breast. And the lamb is just fall off the bone delicious. All dishes are mild just as i like, not spicy at all. However, the only complain would be the temperature of the foods are not hot. It's edible, but would be better if they are warmer. Also, the floor is very sticky. Just doesn't sound and feel nice when walking around. Hope they would fix these little things, it may improve a whole lots of the customers experience.
Limited selection for a buffet restaurant & the food was so spicy that you couldn't even taste it!
Loved the place and ambience. The waitress went out of the way to customize my order by making some substitutions. The size of the portions were also very good. Would definitely visit once again...
Dont waste your money at this restaurant , decor is good but food was a complete disaster and not fresh at all . Owner does not seem to care at all as well ...
Great luncheon buffet if you love Indian food.
Love the variety of their buffet. Best Indian food in calgary
This place was great. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was super quiet. The service was very good, and the food was fantastic. Thank you for a great meal. This is a large dining hall with very thematically Indian decorations.Cheers.
Ok food and ok kind of service
Wide selection of authentic Indian food, great ambiance and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend a visit for anyone in downtown Calgary looking for a great dining experience.
All you can eat dinner buffet was great. My kids enjoyed the food bcz it was not very spicy. Prices are extremely competitive and the service was excellent.
We had our wedding reception here recently. The owner is such a nice person. He is really easy to work with and I felt like we could really trust him with such an important event. He was very flexible with equipment drop off and pick up. The food was great. We had an open bar and the bar staff were surprisingly quick and very pleasant. I don’t have a bad thing to say about Royal India. Our experience was exceptional. We will definitely be returning for our first wedding anniversary. Thank you so much for such a great experience!!!
This place used to be pretty solid. Now it seems like they dialed the spice levels to "super-bland". Channa, one of my favorites, tasted like chick peas in some thin brown sauce. The butter chicken was so diluted it was basically chicken in tomato soup. I get that you want to make the food approachable, but c'mon.Service was solid, they kept my water full.
Ordered through Uber eats. Still came in hot. Main food was good, but sides (naan, rice) were small portions compared to price and amount from similar restaurants. But overall it was good.
Large selection and tasty options for the buffet. A little pricey though.
Had ordered goat biryani from here through Foodora. It was the worst biryani I have ever had. Biryani is one of the best dishes in the Indian cuisine and this place managed to totally sabotage its reputation. I really hope no one has their first experience of eating biryani at this restaurant. Never gonna order from here again.
Lunch buffet was very nice and the lamb curry was a favorite.
